Carmarthen’s new cinema is to be the first of a new generation to have state-of-the-art technology and will be one of the most modern in the UK.

The Apollo chain has become the first in Europe to move to Sony Digital Cinema Virtual Print Fee. This means that the cinema, due to open its doors next year, will offer the ultimate digital experience with 3D viewing, enhanced image and sound quality using the CineAlta 4k digital cinema projectors, 8 million megapixel technology.

Apollo Cinemas Managing Director Rob Arthur said: “This agreement puts Apollo amongst the most innovative cinema operators in the world and will establish the UK’s first fully digital circuit and in Sony Digital Cinema 4k. Our partnership with Sony allows Apollo to offer the ultimate digital cinema experience to all our valued guests. The Sony Digital Cinema 4k digital systems provide outstanding image and sound quality, and will enable us to extend our programming to alternative content, delivering new and exciting experiences for our existing and future customers.”

The Apollo cinema, which will be handed over by developers Simons to Apollo for fitting within the next few weeks, will occupy a space of 17,000 sq ft, have five screens and a total seating capacity of 1,000, and is expected to employ 35 people.
